Barawards 2023: Dry Martini Sorrento named Hotel Bar of the Year
At the 2023 Barawards, the industry prize run by Bargiornale, Dry Martini at Majestic Palace was named Hotel Bar of the Year during the gala night at Alcatraz in Milan.
Some awards come from a panel of experts, others come from the people who do your own job every day, behind a counter. The Barawards belong to the second family: it is the prize through which Bargiornale, for years the voice of the Italian bar industry, asks that industry to name its own best.
In the 2023 edition, during the gala night at Alcatraz in Milan, the Hotel Bar of the Year award went to Dry Martini at Majestic Palace in Sorrento.
The category puts Italian hotel bars side by side and asks something difficult of them: to be the living room of a hotel and, at the same time, a venue that could stand on its own. A hotel bar has to welcome the guest coming up from the pool in the afternoon and, that same evening, the visitor who came from outside for one properly made cocktail.
Dry Martini Sorrento opened in 2018 as the first and only Italian address of Javier de las Muelas' brand: a list of more than two hundred cocktails, around a hundred of them variations on the Martini, across two distinct spaces, the hotel main hall and the rooftop terrace over the Gulf of Naples.
The 2023 award remains one of the milestones of that journey: confirmation, from the industry itself, that a hotel bar on the Sorrento peninsula belongs in the same sentence as the great city names.
